What can a writer do to market their book after they have finally written it and it has been published? Knowing how to market a book can make the difference between an author's success and failure. The real work begins when you have finished your book and it has been published because if you are a first time author, you will have to market your book for it to be known because marketing the book is what will bring you revenue from sales. You will have to decide how you will do this because there are various options.

If you have the money to pay a publicist or a marketing firm, this can be easy. But if you don't then you will need to look for low cost options to market and promote your book. The easiest and cheapest alternative for marketing and promoting your book is to create your custom made business cards and flyers. A theme card for your book can go well with the promotional materials that you can get designed for you. In the promotional materials, you can include leaflets that go along with the theme, postcard and letterheads. The advantage of using multicolored cards is that they get the attention of people very fast.

Depending on the book that you are marketing and promoting, it would be good to design your promotional material along those lines. Book festivals are a good idea and if there is a local bookshop around, you can get them to feature your book using interactive stand up displays or portable banner stands. A book launch would also be quite a great idea and during the book launch, you will need to advertise in the newspapers, on television and even online. During the book launch, you can have a book signing event where you meet people personally and when they buy a copy of your book, you can sign it for them.

T-shirts are a good way to do a promotional and marketing event. They are especially good when there are certain community events within your city, town or community. Make sure the t-shirts are imprinted with your book and information on how and where to buy the book. Becoming a part of the business community is also a great idea. You will need to build a network before you begin promoting and marketing your book and that network will be vital when you have to do the book promotion. If people know you, they will easily buy your book and recommend it to others.

It would be a good idea to have a press kit ready just in case you need to deal with people from the press. A website will also be a good idea in this age of information superhighway. Other new ways to sell your book can include affiliate marketing where people link their site to yours and sell your book on their sites and you give them a commission on that. This is a great way to move volumes of sales on the book. Join other forums for writers and authors and make a blog, leave your comments and short articles on other sites and people will begin to network with you causing their curiosity to buy your book. When your book begins to get reviews, you will see more sales coming in. It is important to have a plan both for your book marketing and promotion and another for how you use your time and schedule your programs. Without a plan, you will not be successful.
